It’s nice to meet you
Hi, my name is Adriane Kuhn. I’ve lived here for 5 years. I have a husband and three kids ages 7-20, the youngest two go to Longfellow, and I own a business in Salida.
I grew up in a rural area in Washington State where people love their peaceful way of life. My parents still live in the house I grew up in and have always been involved members of the community. I learned my sense of community engagement from them. When we made the move to Colorado (back to Colorado for my husband), our desire for a traditional childhood for our kids led us to Chaffee County. Most people I meet share the same priorities.
I own a small business, Little Red Tricycle, a gift shop in Salida, and before that I was a real estate broker. Back in my 20s, I had a landscape and horticulture business. I enjoy working with the public, and my husband will tell you I am not shy. In real estate I mostly enjoyed working with first time home buyers but I facilitated sales of all types of housing which led me to understand private land use, investment motivation, supply and demand, and land use infrastructure, such as wells and septic. I also have strong negotiation skills. I'm a certified master negotiator, but I always work with an eye towards consensus.
Owning a business in town I have learned a lot about managing people and how best to utilize their time and skills. I've changed my business model to fit the wants and needs of our community. Meeting locals from all over Chaffee and learning about their lives and perspectives is a part of being a store owner that I truly enjoy. Parenting for a couple of decades has taught me about patience and listening . I've also learned a lot about others; how they live and their values.
And in all my roles I’ve had I’ve learned that there is always more to learn.
The last thing I would say about myself is I am absolutely a problem solver. I’m always thinking outside the box on different ways to handle an issue whether it's to solve a problem or just improve something to make it work better.
